Volunteers from Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie will be holding an Open Day this Sunday in Pelican Foreshore Park next to our Rescue Boat Base. This year, we will be joined by NSW DPI Fisheries. The theme for the Open Day is “Gone Fishing”
Starting from 9am, the day will feature – Cooking Demonstrations by Chef Rod from Newcastle’s iconic Paymasters Cottage, rides in Marine Rescue Response Vessels, emergency service displays showcasing The State Emergency Service, Swansea Fire and Rescue, Surf Life Saving NSW, and of course, Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie.
Pelican Foreshore will be filled with stalls and food outlets, games and family activities, fishing clinics, water safety demonstrations and much, much more. Entry is FREE.
Volunteers from Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie will be available to talk about some of the work that they have done this year. From January the 1st, until the end of September, some of their statistics are below.
11706 radio calls were received at our Swansea Heads Radio Base from boaters

420 boaters were tracked offshore as they passed along our coastline
281 boaties called us for help during the nine months of this year, which included, medical incidents, tows, pump outs, run aground, jump starts just to name a few.
