Police appeal for witnesses after affray

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after an affray at a Shoal Bay business yesterday.

Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District are investigating the affray at a café on Government Road about 2.30pm (Sunday 9 June 2019).

Police have been told a verbal argument broke out between a couple – a 26-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman – and a 25-year-old female customer who had left the café to film them before the couple were seen leaving in a vehicle.

A number of customers including children were in the café at the time and when the couple returned, the altercation became physical inside, and another female customer intervened and attempted to separate the parties.

The man and woman again left, and no reports of injuries have been received.

Port Stephens-Hunter Police District Duty Officer, Acting Inspector Kristin Marshall said police are concerned about commentary on social media and would like to clarify at no time were anyone employed by the business involved in the incident.
