An inspection of the Kilaben Bay baths and jetty identified some potentially contaminated materials used in the construction of this facility.
Following this inspection, a hygienist was engaged to confirm the material.
Council received advice from the hygienist that asbestos fibres could be present within the piling that surrounds the baths and recommended that the baths be closed to the public.
Based on this advice, access to the Kilaben Bay baths was restricted in February 2019.
We are now awaiting formal advice from the hygienist, which will determine if the materials will need to be removed and the possible method for removal.
Until this advice is received, the facility will remain closed. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the closure and will provide an update to the community as soon as possible.
