State Member for Wallsend, Ms Sonia Hornery MP, has called on Health Minister Brad Hazzard to visit John Hunter Hospital and see first-hand the problems staff and visitors face when trying to exit the Hospital every afternoon.
Ms Hornery recently wrote to the Minister about the issue of traffic congestion on the Hospital road network after complaints from staff and visitors who face a daily wait of more than an hour just to exit the Hospital campus.
The letter to the Minster contained more than 30 pages of real life examples from staff and visitors and practical solutions that would help ease some of the congestion while waiting for the Newcastle Inner City Bypass Stage 5 to be constructed.
“This shows how out of touch the Government and Ministers are with the community.”
“More than 30 pages of people telling the Minister of the issues they face trying to get out of the Hospital road network, just completely ignored. Literally hundreds and hundreds of individual complaints and not one of them was acknowledged.”
“The Minister advised me that the road works at the Hospital last year has helped to improve traffic flow and make entering and exiting the campus easier and faster.”
“Well Minister, staff and visitors are saying the complete opposite. I have never had more complaints about the delays in getting out of the Hospital campus.” Stated Ms Hornery
Minister Hazzard dismissed the concerns of the hundreds of staff and visitors and instead advised that recent changes to the road network had all but solved the issues.
