Search after skeletal remains found

An investigation is underway following the discovery of human skeletal remains in northern NSW.

Officers from New England Police District were called to the bank of the Mehi River, Moree, after skeletal remains were found about 11am on Tuesday, January 1.

A crime scene was established at the location, and a co-ordinated search of the river and land began at 9am yesterday (Wednesday, January 2).

The remains have been sent for forensic examination.
