Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service was yesterday afternoon responsible for attending to an injured passenger on a cruise liner out to sea from Newcastle.

At around 2.15pm on Sunday, December 30, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter rendezvoused with a passenger ship from England 60 Nautical Miles NorthEast of Newcastle. On board, an 83-year-old female passenger sustained serious leg injuries in a fall and required urgent medical attention and evacuation to a hospital.

The Critical Care Medical Team was winched aboard the ship and assisted the ships medical staff to stabilise the patient before being winched off and flown to the John HUnter Hospital in a stable condition.
