Local sporting stars who want to add their name to the City’s long list of esteemed athletes can now nominate into the Lake Macquarie Sports Awards.
Council’s Acting Manager Community Planning, Andrew Bryant, said the awards celebrate exceptional sportspeople and hard-working administrators of Lake Macquarie City.
“Our City is home to extraordinary sportspeople and administrators who dedicated themselves to achieving outstanding results as they represent Lake Macquarie, the state, and our country,” Mr Bryant said.
“We want to recognise these special people who inspire others to participate in sports and work hard to excel in their chosen field.”
Elite sportspeople can join the ranks of athlete Erin Cleaver, cliff diver Rhiannan Iffland, and V8 Supercar driver Aaren Russell as winners of the Lake Macquarie Sports Awards.
Council is calling for nominations from people who live in the Lake Macquarie area in the following categories:
- Junior Sportsperson of the Year
- Sports Administrator of the Year
- Lake Macquarie Sports Scholarship Award for Athletes with a Disability
- Masters Sportsperson of the Year
- Sportsperson of the Year
The winner of the International Children’s Games Fair Play Award will also be announced as part of this year’s Awards.
All winners will be announced at a special event to be held on Friday, February 22, 2019.
