Roll out the rugs for Picnic in the Park

Toronto Foreshore - a great spot for a fun evening out with the family

Hundreds of people are expected to fill Toronto Foreshore next Friday, November 16 for the 2018 instalment of Picnic in the Park.

Lake Macquarie City Council Manager Community Planning, Andrew Bryant, said the free all-ages event would include live music, story-time sessions, face painting and other family entertainment.

“One of the main drivers of our Night Time Economy Strategy currently under development is to create a vibrant evening economy in strategic centres across our City,” Mr Bryant said.

“Events like Picnic in the Park do just that. It will showcase our beautiful lake, provide safe, fun and free entertainment for families and provide flow-on economic benefits to Toronto.”

Visitors to the event can pack a picnic dinner or grab a bite to eat at cafes and restaurants nearby and come down to the foreshore for free games and live entertainment by the lake.

“This is a wonderful social event for our community to meet their neighbours or catch up with family and friends in a relaxing atmosphere,” Mr Bryant said.

Local ukulele band, Ukenjamit, will be bringing the fun with an energetic live performance, while Lake Mac Libraries will host the story time sessions.

Limited seating will be provided or visitors can bring their own rugs and camping chairs.

This event is a joint initiative of the Sustainable Neighbourhood Alliance, Toronto Area Sustainable Neighbourhood Group, Five Bays Sustainable Neighbourhood Group, Lioness Club of Toronto NSW, Lake Mac Libraries and Lake Macquarie City Council.
