Newcastle paramedics threatened, shoved; man charged

A man has been charged after paramedics were allegedly threatened and shoved at Newcastle overnight.

NSW Ambulance paramedics were called to Honeysuckle Drive, Newcastle, about 6.30pm yesterday (Monday 8 October 2018), due to concerns for the wellbeing of a man reported to be unconscious outside a food outlet.

Officers from Newcastle City Police District have been told when the two paramedics tried to help the man he became violent, allegedly threatening them, trying to punch one then shoving the second paramedic backwards.

A 29-year-old man was arrested in a nearby apartment a short time later.

He was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he has now been charged with two counts of common assault, and two counts of intimidation.

He was bailed to due to appear in Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 25 October 2018.

Neither paramedic was physically injured; however, both were shaken by the incident.
