Police were called to the scene of a fatal crash in the Hunter region today.
Just before 3.30pm (Friday, September 7), emergency services were called to the New England Highway, between Singleton and Muswellbrook, near the power stations, after reports two cars had crashed head-on.
The male driver of one car died at the scene.
Two people in a second car were treated for serious injuries and were airlifted to John Hunter Hospital by the Westpac Helicopter Service; one is a male believed to be in his 60s suffering serious multiple injuries and reported to be in a critical condition; the other a female patient from the same accident who was expected to arrive at JHH around 6pm this evening.
Officers from Hunter Valley Police District attended and will investigate the circumstances of the crash.
The New England Highway was closed for a time between Muscle Creek Road and Thomas Mitchell Drive with local traffic diversions in place.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
