Lake Macquarie City Council is encouraging the community to help create a Chalk Art Mural as part of White Balloon Day on Friday, September 7.
White Balloon Day aims to raise awareness of child sexual assault and what people can do to reduce instances of this type of behaviour in the community.
Council’s Manager Community Planning, Andrew Bryant, said crime statistics showed one in five children were sexually assaulted before the age of 18.
“Council is committed to ensuring Lake Macquarie is a safe place for children to grow up,” Mr Bryant said.
“We are encouraging our community to come together at Speers Point Park to share messages on The Promenade to raise awareness of, and encourage people, to speak out against child sexual assault.
“Come along to Speers Point Park from 10am to draw your own masterpiece as part of the Chalk Art Mural, bring a picnic rug and enjoy a morning out in the sunshine, all in the name of a good cause.”
The Rover will also be on site providing a range of fun activities for the children in attendance.
