As expected, competition favourites Heat put the cleaners through their rivals Crossfire in the major semi-final of the Charlestown A Grade Netball on Saturday.
Crossfire moved into second position, up from third, in place of Watters who had to withdraw from the competition after the final round due to injuries and personal commitments, which was unfortunate for a group of girls who had put their heart and soul into the entire season, only dropping three games to the eventual minor premiers, Heat.
It was a daunting task for Crossfire coming up against a team full of young representative stars hellbent on redemption after losing the 2017 grand final to Job Done.
On the back of magnificent defence and a high shooting percentage Heat kicked away early in the game and were never headed, eventually winning 65-34.
The minor semi-final saw a major upset when Purnells, promoted from fifth spot in place of Watters, defeated the reigning premiers Job Done 59-52 to book a spot in next weekend’s final against Crossfire.
Could it be a rags to riches story for Purnells; out of the competition one week; into the final the following week; and maybe even a spot in the grand final is not beyond them.
