Workplace chemical spill at Beresfield

Police attended the scene of a workplace incident at Newcastle yesterday.

Just before 7.30pm yesterday (Friday, June 29), emergency services were called to a factory in Beresfield, after reports of an accident.

Almost 350 employees were evacuated, with 11 treated on scene following exposure to a chemical spill.

Nine of those treated, including four men and five women, have been taken to John Hunter (3), The Mater (4), and Maitland (2) hospitals for observation following exposure.

Fire & Rescue NSW – Hazmat secured the scene.

Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District attended, with investigations being undertaken by SafeWork NSW.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
