Believe it or not, but today, Monday, June 18 is International Picnic Day.

Nothing wrong with a picnic today, you say. Nothing wrong except the temperature all day in Lake Macquarie has been hovering around 11 degrees, the ocean resembles a washing machine, the lake resembles the ocean and it has rained intermittently all day in a wide area of our beautiful region.

Having said that, when the sun shines and the sky is blue, there is no better place to spend your perfect day with family and friends than having a picnic or a barbie, in Lake Macquarie City.

To help celebrate International Picnic Day we’ve put together our top picnic spots.

Ocean-side picnic

Even in winter, our beautiful Lake Mac Beaches offer the perfect spot for a picnic lunch. Visit the beautiful sea caves at Caves Beach, where you will find a beautiful picnic area adjacent to the surf club featuring sheltered tables, electric barbecues and public amenities.

Lakeside picnic

One of our most relaxing foreshore reserves is Pelican Foreshore, one of Lake Macquarie’s most beloved picnic sites, where families can relax on the shady grassed areas or fish off the small jetty. The reserve also features sheltered tables, electric barbecues, a playground for the kids and public amenities.

Rathmines Park

This is the perfect place for a family picnic with its playground, lakeside location and proximity to shops and takeaway options.

Speers Point Park (Lake Macquarie Variety Playground)

This mammoth park for kids, features slides, swings, flying fox, massive jungle gym, and much more.

To find other locations across the City, go to Picnic and Barbecues.
