Float Your Boat is coming again in 2018 and Lake Macquarie City Council is calling on local boaties to help light up the Lake on June 22 and 23.

Council’s Manager Cultural Services, Jacqui Hemsley, said Council is looking forward to building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, which attracted thousands of spectators to the Lake’s edge to see a flotilla of lights across two nights.

“Once again, we are opening up the challenge for boat owners to dress up their boats with lights and take part in a two-night flotilla parade on our beautiful Lake Macquarie,” Ms Hemsley said.

“Last year we had more than 23 boats, illuminated with lights as whales, turtles and stars, and this year we want to see even more boaties join in the fun.”

Float Your Boat participants will be competing for cash prizes across three categories:

  • People’s Choice Award – $2000
  • Mayor’s Best Boat Award, 10m and over – $1000
  • Mayor’s Best Boat Award, 5m and over – $1000

Applications are now open and registration is free. Simply complete and return the Expression of Interest form.

Early bird registrations will be offered entry into a free marine sculpture workshop at Marmong Point Marina, where participants will gain advice on how to make their illumination ideas a reality.

Float Your Boat will be happening on Lake Macquarie from 6pm to 8pm on Friday and Saturday,  June 22 and 23, with illuminated boats parading along the western side of the Lake on the Friday night, followed by the eastern side on the Saturday.
