Woman drowns near Port Macquarie

Investigations are continuing after a woman drowned on the state’s Mid North Coast yesterday.

Just before 5pm on Wednesday, April 11, emergency services were called to Mill Street, Laurieton, about 40kms south of Port Macquarie, after a woman was pulled from the water.

Police and ambulance paramedics attended, however; the woman could not be revived and died at the scene.

Police said Initial inquiries indicate the 48-year-old woman jumped in the Camden Haven River after an argument with a man.

A 41-year-old man was arrested and taken to Port Macquarie Police Station. He was later released pending further inquiries.

A report will now be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
