Police have charged a Corrective Services employee with allegedly introducing contraband into a correctional facility at Cessnock.

Yesterday, when a drug dog operation was being conducted at the facility, police allege drugs were located in a wallet belonging to a 29-year-old employee. The man was arrested and taken to Cessnock Police Station and interviewed.

Police will further allege the man on at least ten different occasions this year brought various types of contraband into the facility in exchange for cash.

The man has been charged with two counts of agent corruptly receive benefit, bring drugs into place of detention and two counts of unlawfully deliver, or attempt to deliver anything to inmate.

The officer has been suspended from duty.

He was granted conditional bail to appear in Cessnock Local Court on January 24, 2018.
