The draft LT Creek Floodplain Risk Management Plan is now on exhibition and Lake Macquarie City Council is asking for feedback to ensure the priorities and recommendations are on track.
Council’s Manager Sustainability, Alice Howe, said once finalised, the Plan will assist Council to manage existing and future flood risks.
“The draft Plan looks at various flood risk management measures available and any potential impacts on local properties. It also provides recommendations and a guide for completion,” Dr Howe said.
“It was developed based on the investigations and outcomes of the Floodplain Risk Management Study conducted on LT Creek last year.
“The Study included the catchment area of LT Creek at Fassifern and Fennell Bay. We encourage residents and businesses in these areas to review the draft Plan and provide feedback during the exhibition period.”
Some of the high-priority measures include:
- developing flood awareness programs;
- improving flood warnings;
- reviewing access for properties during a flooding event;
- applying floor level controls to reduce flood damages; and
- assessing sewerage systems to ensure safety during a flooding event.
We value your feedback. To provide comment on the draft Plan, visit shape.lakemac.com.au/LT-creek-flood-planning. The exhibition of the draft Plan closes Saturday 23 December 2017.
